Fish Hatcheries

Port Elgin and Kincardine each have a fish hatchery run by the Lake Huron Fishing Club.

Thousands of visitors have toured the brown trout hatchery in Kincardine. Operated entirely by volunteers, the hatchery is open for tours whenever the "Open" sign is visible in the hatchery window, usually 7 to 8 p.m. most evenings.

The Kincardine hatchery has been dubbed the finest club-operated fish hatchery in the Province of Ontario. To reach the hatchery, follow Huron Terrace to Rotary Park--the hatchery sits on the bank of the Penetangore River.

Situated on Upper Avenue in Port Elgin next to the town pond, the chinook hatchery is also operated by volunteers. Tours can be arranged by contacting the Lake Huron Fishing Club. Visit their website at http://www.bmts.com/~fish/ for more information.
